sipXecs / Tutorial

To install Voice Operator Panel (VOP) with sipXecs you need to create a user account that VOP will use to register to the sipXecs server.

Log to the sipXecs admin web interface and select: Users > Users > Add New User.

Enter a user ID, a PIN and a SIP password, then click on "OK".

For this tutorial we will use the user ID "901" and the SIP password "secret".

Now you need to configure the list of the sipXecs users/phones that VOP will monitor (presence list).

Click on the user you just created in the users list to edit it and select "Speed Dial".

If "Use Group Speed Dials" is checked, uncheck it, this will make the "Add Number" option appear just above.

Now for each user/phone you want to add the presence list:

. Click on "Add Number".
. Enter his name. (if possible using the syntax "Name, First-Name").
. Enter his number. (it is the user ID. If the user ID is non-numerical you need to enter his address instead: userid@domain).
. Check "Subscribe to presence".
. Click on "Apply".

The VOP user account at sipXecs is now configured, you can now start VOP and configure it through the wizard:

"Enter your display:" - Enter the name (caller ID) of the application. ("VOP" for example)
"Enter your user name:" - Enter the user ID of the sipXecs account. ("901" in our tutorial)
"Enter your proxy host name or address:" - Enter the host/domain name of your sipXecs server. ("foobar.com" for example)
"Enter your proxy port:" - Leave it to zero.
"Enter your proxy user name:" - Leave it blank.
"Enter your proxy password:" - Enter the password of the sipXecs account. ("secret" in our tutorial)
"Enter your voicemail phone number:" - Enter the phone number to dial to reach the voicemail of the VOP account. (it is by default "101" for sipXecs)
Finish the wizard by entering other information not related to sipXecs.

VOP will start and register to your sipXecs server.

There are additional settings that you need to enter in VOP through the Settings window:

. Enter the presence resource list "~~rl~C~901" in: Settings > Account > Presence resource list. ("901" is the user ID we selected in our tutorial, replace it with the one you selected)
. If you are using DNS SRV to resolve the sipXecs server host/domain, check: Settings > Account > Use DNS SRV to get proxy address/port.

Click on Save and restart VOP.

You will now need to build the Local directory of VOP with the users at your sipXecs server.

There are several solutions to do it:

1. You can manually add every user.
2. You can import a phonebook containing all your users at sipXecs.
3. You can have VOP automatically add the users your entered in the speed dial list.

First you will need to remove the dummy/example user "Doe, John" by right-clicking on him and selecting: User > Remove.

If you select (1) : For each user you want to add you need to right-click in the Local directory and select: User > Add.

If you select (2) : You need to select the phonebook through your web interface at your sipXecs server (in Features > Phonebooks), then click on "Download phonebook as vCard", then import this file by right-clicking in the Local directory and selecting: User > Import.

If you select (3) : You need to check the option: Settings > Account > Populate local directory from presence resource list, click on Save and restart.

If you select (2) or (3) you can still add/modify/complete users afterwards.

We advise you to use (2) because you will get the most information already entered on your users. (Company, Department, Title, Phone, Mobile, Home, E-mail)

Once done, restart VOP one last time.

You should now see all your users in the Local directory with a green phone icon that will change to show the phone status (available, ringing, busy) and if you expand a user you will be able to see every calls on his phone (call direction/state, caller/ee name), you will also be able to intercept/steal any call by right-clicking on the phone (or the call) and selecting: Intercept.

You have now fully configured VOP for your sipXecs server.

If you have any problem press Alt-D to show the debug window of VOP, you should be able to read the problem from there.

You can also configure VOP and sipXecs to offer XMPP user presence, messaging and file transfer by following the tutorial here.
